1. ESO Workshop "Planetary Formation and Exoplanets in the ELT era"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESO Garching, 17 - 21 November 2025
Rregistration and abstract submission open
We are excited to share with you that the registration and abstract submission for the ESO workshop "Planetary Formation and Exoplanets in the ELT era" is now open.
Priority in the selection process of this workshop will be given to talks from the ESO community. Only in-person posters will be accepted. However, we warmly encourage all scientists to submit an abstract. Thank you for your understanding and interest.
This workshop will discuss the understanding of how giant and rocky planets form and evolve, their internal structure and that of their atmosphere, in the context of the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT).
The main aims of the workshop are to:
- inform the ESO community about the status, schedule, modes and performances of the MORFEO/MICADO, HARMONI, METIS, ANDES and PCS instruments;
- present and revisit the science that will be addressed by the ELT, the scientific cases, samples, strategies of observation, calibration, data analysis and interpretation tools of the programmes dedicated to the study of the planetary formation and exoplanets;
- foster collaboration and synergy within the community to harmonize efforts, tools and strategies for the preparatory work on the ELT programmes dedicated to these topics within the framework of the guaranteed and open time.

2. JWST Cycle 5 Exosystem Proposal Preparation Workshop [Registrations Open]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JWST Exosystem Proposal Preparation workshop - Cycle 5, Marseille, June 18-19
Registrations are now open for the JWST Exosystem Proposal Preparation workshop - Cycle 5, to be held at the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille on June 18 and 19.
Please visit the workshop website to register:
https://jwst-c5-exosys.sciencesconf.org/
The registrations will be open until Mai 16th.
Early-career scientists are welcome and encouraged to register.
Meals will be provided, travel and lodging are at the discretion of the participants.
Roman Coronagraph Splinter session:
A dedicated splinter session will take place just after the workshop (morning of Friday, June 20th) to coordinate the preparation of Roman Coronagraph Science & Technology proposals within the CPP France community. Workshop participants are welcome to attend.
Workshop rational:
In just 3 observing cycles, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has already revolutionized the science of exoplanets and exoplanetary systems. Its unrivalled sensitivity and spectral resolution, particularly in the mid-infrared, have enabled previously unattainable diagnoses to be made. Significant breakthroughs have been made in all sub-fields related to exoplanetary systems, from transiting rocky planets to gas giant planets, and from the chemistry of inner disks to the physics of cold outer disks.
As the pressure to obtain observing time with this observatory keeps increasing, it is all the more necessary to join forces to develop competitive science cases with multiple expertise from observations to theory.
To help the French exosystem community to develop strong and successful proposals, we will be holding the 3rd edition of the JWST Exosystem Proposal Preparation Workshop series on June 18-19 at the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille.
This two-day workshop will be organized in two parts:
- A session with invited talks from experts about the health of the telescope and its instruments, and reviews on the latest JWST results on Exosystems sub-fields,
- A brainstorming session in small groups to develop collaborative proposals on key science cases.
Key dates:
- April 7th: first announcement
- April 14th: 2nd announcement & registration open
- May 16th: registration deadline
- June 18-19: workshop in Marseille
For questions or additional information, please contact the organizing team via the workshop website.
